Congress to Introduce Annual Review of Cuban Embargo

In response to new embargo measures set to go into effect June 1, a Congressional group announced the introduction of a bill that would require a yearly Congressional review of the Cuban embargo.
Exemplifying Bush’s transparent pandering to hard-line Cuban exiles in Miami, “these new restrictions are simply the latest in a long series that have been implemented without Congressional consultation,” commented Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT).
This new bill mirrors an existing Congressional review process initiated last year regarding Myanmar. The announcement comes on the day the President speaks in Miami to publicize his adoption of the harsh recommendations made by the Commission on Cuba.
In Miami, 200 Cuban Americans protested Bush’s newest crackdown on Cuba. Calling themselves the “Cuban American Commission for Family Rights,” the group denounced what they see as a progressively reckless and archaic Cuba policy.
